Most lists of YouTube video ideas name videos from huge channels, so you cannot tell whether the idea works or the audience did.
This list starts from our own data instead: 2026 videos on small channels that beat their own normal by 5x or more, scored the same way for every one.
Each idea below has one proof video, one limit, and one line on how to copy it.
Quick answer
- A working idea here means a 2026 video on a channel under 100,000 subscribers that scored 5x or more against its own channel.
- Nine formats came out of the data: best-of lists, facts lists, tier lists, how-tos, versus videos, cost checks, timing claims, long-run results and explainers.
- Lists and how-tos have the best backing, since our study found numbers, lists and tutorials 1.28x to 1.38x as likely to hit 5x within a channel.
- Treat each format as a test for your next three uploads, not a promise.

The Nine Ideas at a Glance
We scored every video the same way, using our study data:
- Score = views divided by the median (the middle value once sorted) of the ten uploads before it, in the same format.
- 5x or more is an outlier, and all nine cleared it (data).
- Scores were measured on 25 September 2026; views were re-pulled on 29 September 2026.

Idea Formats Built on Lists
Within a channel, a list-style title was 1.28x as likely to hit 5x in our 27,985-video study. That is a modest edge, so read these as examples.
1. Best-of Lists: The Biggest Score in the Set
JINBOX, a channel under 10,000 subscribers, posted "TOP 10 Best Cozy Mobile Games 2026" on 17 January 2026.
It scored 204x against a baseline median of 752 views, and had 155,819 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: the baseline of 752 views was tiny, so a small jump makes a huge score.
Copy it: pick a narrow slice of a hobby you know, rank ten items in it, and put the year in the title.
2. Facts Lists: Cheap to Make, Easy to Repeat
GeoMap Unveiled, a channel of 10,000 to 100,000 subscribers, posted "50 Insane Facts About Norway Hiding In Plain Sight" on 28 July 2026.
It scored 19.1x against a baseline median of 1,196.5 views, and had 22,968 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: the reach is real but modest, a good week on a small channel.
Copy it: choose one place, person or topic, gather facts you have checked, and title the video with the count.
3. Tier Lists as Shorts: Big Reach, Different Rules
Calisthenic Crafted posted the Short "Ranking Every Push Ups Variation (Tier List Worst to Best)" on 20 May 2026.
It scored 30.5x against a baseline median of 25,861 views, and had 791,402 views on 29 September 2026. This is a Short, scored only against the channel's other Shorts.
Limit: Shorts and long videos are judged separately, and a Short's views do not carry over to your long-form audience.
Copy it: rank every variation of one thing you know well.
Idea Formats Built on Helping and Comparing
Tutorial titles were the strongest single pattern in our study, 1.38x as likely to hit 5x within a channel. Comparison and price videos sit next to them: they answer a search someone is about to make.
4. How-To Fixes: The Tutorial Edge, Proven Small
Michael Bloom, a chiropractor on a channel under 10,000 subscribers, posted "how to correct shoulder strain" on 6 January 2026.
It scored 78.1x against a baseline median of 554 views, and had 43,244 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: the title is plain and the baseline is small, so part of the score is the denominator. It also depends on real expertise.
Copy it: title the fix exactly as a person with the problem would type it, and show the fix in the first minute.
5. A Versus B: Two Named Things Do the Work
Tech Selly, a channel of 10,000 to 100,000 subscribers, posted "Oppo Reno 16 5G Vs Vivo V70 Full Comparison" on 30 June 2026.
It scored 70.7x against a baseline median of 2,913.5 views, and had 217,001 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: this is a news-cycle idea. Two new phones are compared once, so the window closes when the next launch lands.
Copy it: compare two things people are about to choose between, and name both in the title.
6. Cost Checks: A Price Comparison for One Place
China Alludu, a channel of 10,000 to 100,000 subscribers, posted "How Much Do Groceries Cost in China? (Price Comparison)" on 6 September 2026.
It scored 18.7x against a baseline median of 4,650.5 views, and had 98,270 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: the video is a market walk-through, so the idea depends on you having access to the place and its prices.
Copy it: pick one everyday cost in a place you can film, and show the actual price tags on screen.
Idea Formats Built on Your Own Experience
Personal-story titles did not help in our study, at 0.74x as likely to hit 5x within a channel. These three work because the title carries a claim or a result.
7. Timing Claims: One Concrete Mistake
Austin Davis, a channel under 10,000 subscribers, posted "You're Upgrading Your Phone at the Wrong Time" on 20 April 2026.
It scored 32.4x against a baseline median of 2,243 views, and had 73,114 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: our study found no lift from extreme promises, so do not read this as proof that "wrong" wording works. The topic did the work.
Copy it: name one decision your audience makes and the moment they usually get it wrong, then answer it.
8. Long-Run Results: What Happened After Years
Fellas Finance, a channel of 10,000 to 100,000 subscribers, posted "I Invested Every Month for 8 Years. Here's What Happened." on 5 February 2026.
It scored 34x against a baseline median of 2,313.5 views, and had 78,774 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: it needs a real long history. You cannot fake eight years, and a thin result reads as a stunt.
Copy it: report a real number over a real period you have already lived, and show the record.
9. Explainers: One Question, Fully Answered
Past Uncovered, a channel of 10,000 to 100,000 subscribers, posted "How Each Christian Denomination Is Formed" on 16 January 2026.
It scored 46.9x against a baseline median of 801.5 views, and had 37,712 views on 29 September 2026.
Limit: explainers were 0.87x as likely to hit 5x within a channel in our study, so this format is not a safe bet by itself.
Copy it: pick a question people argue about, answer it in order, and make a second version of the same idea.
How to Pick One Idea From This List
The nine videos come from a pool of 556 videos from 2026 that scored 5x or more on channels under 100,000 subscribers. Of those, 397 were long videos and 159 were Shorts.
In that pool, the median score is 10.0x, and 279 of the 556 are very big outliers. Big scores on small channels are common, but views are often modest.
Two facts on the wider market. Metricool's 2026 YouTube study of 799,718 videos found the Shorts feed generated 61% of YouTube views.
And YouTube removed or wiped 16 AI-heavy channels with about 35 million subscribers in early 2026, per IBTimes. Templated, faceless content is the riskier bet.
Three rules follow:
- Pick the format you can make with real knowledge.
- Copy the shape of a title, never the words.
- Test one format on three uploads before you judge it.
Conclusion (What I Would Do)
I would do three things:
- Pick the idea closest to something I actually know.
- Publish a version this week.
- Score it against my own recent uploads.
An outlier score is views divided by the channel's usual views; our outlier score guide shows the division. The study of how common outliers are shows what usually follows one.
Only 8.3% of long videos in our study reached 5x, so I would plan for three tries, not one.

FAQ: YouTube Video Ideas in 2026
How do I know if a video idea is working before I film it?
Find one video using the idea on a channel your size, then divide its views by the median of its recent uploads (ten is a sensible default).
At 5x or more, it beat its own channel. Our scoring guide walks through the division.
Can a channel under 10,000 subscribers use these ideas?
Yes. Three of the nine proofs came from channels under 10,000 subscribers, including a 204x list and a 78.1x how-to.
The caveat is that small baselines inflate scores, so judge an idea by its views as well as its multiple.
Which idea type is most likely to work?
Lists and tutorials have the best backing in our data, at 1.28x and 1.38x as likely to hit 5x within a channel.
Story and gameplay titles were less likely, at 0.74x and 0.68x in the same study. These are modest edges, not guarantees.
Do these ideas work for Shorts?
One proof here is a Short, the push-ups tier list. Shorts are only compared with a channel's other Shorts, so a score is not comparable to a long video's.
Metricool's 2026 study found the Shorts feed drives 61% of views.
Should I copy a title exactly?
No. Copy the shape, such as a count, a named comparison or a real number of years, and change the subject to something you know.
Exact copies also compete with the original video for the same viewers.
Where do I find outlier ideas in my own niche?
